The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety sues Namyang Dairy for the prevention of Bulgaris Corona 19. Daily Dairy and Binggrae reflex beneficiary?

-Reporter Choi Ae-ri

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety recently issued an administrative disposition and prosecution for violation of the “Food Labeling and Advertisement Act” in connection with the announcement of the effect of suppressing Corona 19 on Bulgari products of Namyang Dairy. There was also an opinion that Namyang Dairy’s competitors could benefit from reflection.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 15th that it confirmed that Namyang Dairy was actively involved in the research and holding the symposium through an emergency on-site investigation.

According to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, on the 9th of this month, Namyang Dairy's PR Strategy Office distributed promotional papers containing the phrase'confirmation of antiviral effects against bulgaris, cold influenza (H1N1) and coronavirus (COVID-19)' to 30 media outlets to attend the symposium. Requested.

On the 13th, it was announced on the 13th that it was the first in Korea to confirm that the Bulgaris product has antiviral effect on Corona 19 even though it has not undergone animal testing or clinical testing for 29 media companies attending the symposium.

Even though 1 out of 7 Bulgari products was tested for corona 19 antiviral cells, the product name was specified as that all Bulgari products have antiviral effects.

Considering the relationship between the research presentation of the symposium, such as the Bulgari products used in the study, the research fund supported by Namyang Dairy, and the symposium rental fee, and the relationship with Namyang Dairy, beyond pure academic purposes, Namyang Dairy was in fact promoting the Bulgari products. As such, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety judged it as a violation of Article 8 of the Food Labeling and Advertising Act.

An official from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, “As food is not a drug, labeling and advertising activities that may be recognized as effective in preventing and treating diseases are strictly prohibited. He said, “We will actively block unfair advertising activities that undermine the sound food trade order and deceive consumers.”

In this regard, Park Sang-jun, researcher at Kiwoom Securities, said, “According to Article 8 of the Food Labeling and Advertising Act, it is possible to suspend business for two months as an administrative measure for disease prevention and treatment advertisements.” This has been raised,” he said.

“If Namyang Dairy is suspended from business, we should pay attention to the possibility that major competitors will benefit from it.” Is high. Binggrae still accounts for 57% of sales of milk and beverages, which is highly competitive with Namyang Dairy.”
