"Assassins" (Starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, Lee Min-ho) Surpasses 2 Million Viewers on Day 11 of Release

Denial of Controversies Regarding Historical Distortion and Alleged Influx of Chinese Capital

Break News Reporter Park Dong-je = The film *Assassins* (directed by Hur Jin-ho) has surpassed the 2 million viewer mark on its 11th day of release.

On the 3rd, the production and distribution company, Hive Media Corp, announced, "Today (the 3rd), marking the 11th day since its release, *Assassins* has surpassed a cumulative audience of 2 million, continuing its unstoppable box-office momentum."

With this achievement, *Assassins* becomes the ninth film released this year to exceed 2 million viewers.

Meanwhile, *Assassins*—starring Yoo Hae-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Min-ho—traces the suspicions and the masterminds behind the assassination attempt on the First Lady that shocked South Korea on August 15, 1974; the film is based on the shooting of Yuk Young-soo, the wife of former President Park Chung-hee.

Following the film's release, some political and social circles claimed it distorted history, arguing that the plot suggested a possible link between former President Park Chung-hee and the masterminds behind the assassination attempt.

In response, the production team of *Assassins* issued a statement on the 28th of last month, explaining, "This is a narrative film reconstructed by adding cinematic imagination to various records regarding the incident in question." They added, "The film does not identify any specific individual as the mastermind behind the incident, nor does it present its hypotheses or dramatic plot devices as historical facts. We ask that the work be viewed solely as a product of creative imagination."

Subsequently, following rumors regarding the influx of Chinese capital into the project, the production company Hive Media Corp issued a statement on the 29th of last month. They clarified, "There was absolutely no influx of Chinese capital during the production or investment stages. This project was independently planned and produced using domestic capital, led by a Korean production team and creative staff." They further stated, "As matters concerning investment and production capital are facts that can be objectively verified, we hope that information contrary to the truth will not be further propagated or circulated."
