The Blue House announced on the 11th that the inaugural Korea-Central Asia multilateral summit, involving the leaders of five Central Asian nations, will be held in Seoul from the 14th to the 16th.
Chief Spokesperson Kang Yu-jeong stated in a written briefing that afternoon, "The first Korea-Central Asia Summit will take place in Seoul on the afternoon of the 16th."
She added, "We aim to elevate cooperation with Central Asia to a new level across all sectors—including supply chains, future industries, and people-to-people exchanges—and translate this into tangible results for the implementation of the New Northern Policy and the diversification of our diplomacy."
She further noted, "Cooperation will expand beyond the traditional focus on resources and infrastructure to encompass cutting-edge and eco-friendly industries such as AI, digital technology, science and technology, climate change response, water resource management, and disaster response," adding, "Through this, we will lay the groundwork for new growth looking toward the next 30 years."
This event marks the first multilateral summit between South Korea and Central Asian nations; it elevates the cooperation framework—which has operated at the ministerial level since the launch of the Korea-Central Asia Cooperation Forum in 2007—to the summit level and will see the adoption of the "Seoul Declaration," outlining a vision for mid- to long-term cooperation.
The schedule proceeds as follows: Uzbekistan on the afternoon of the 14th; Turkmenistan (morning) and Kazakhstan (afternoon) on the 15th; and Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan on the morning of the 16th.
