[Poem] A Sleepless Poet’s Night
- Poet Moon Il-suk
I once visited the UAE at the nation's invitation;
Minister Ibrahim guided me, a poet, out into the desert—
A sandy expanse where nothing caught the eye but sand.
Upon returning to my hotel,
I found a few grains of sand that had hitched a ride in my shoes.
From that moment on, sleep eluded me.
Those grains of sand that rolled into my shoes—
I imagined that, to fill the void left behind in the desert,
Countless grains of sand across that vast expanse
Must have begun to shift and stir.
I’m in trouble;
This thought kept me wide awake.
Even now, countless grains of sand in the desert
Must be shifting because of my shoes.
The universe is in an uproar; I still cannot sleep—what am I to do?
