Netflix’s ‘Outback’ Casts Ryu Jun-yeol, Hong Kyung, Jung Ho-yeon, Won Ji-an, and Justin Min—Anticipation Builds

New Netflix Series; Executive Produced by Han Jun-hee (Director of ‘D.P.’)

Break News Reporter Park Dong-je = Netflix has confirmed the production of its new series *Outback* (working title) and revealed a cast lineup featuring Ryu Jun-yeol, Hong Kyung, Jung Ho-yeon, Won Ji-an, and Justin Min.

The new Netflix series *Outback* (working title) tells the story of ‘Sion,’ who travels to Australia after hearing the news of his older sister’s sudden death. In this unfamiliar city, he confronts mysteries surrounding her passing and sets out to uncover the hidden truth.

On the 11th, Netflix stated, “Based on the webtoon *G'day*, *Outback* (working title) will reinterpret the original’s mysterious tension through a dramatic lens. It aims to present a fresh narrative by establishing new backstories and relationships for the characters, while expanding the world-building and supporting cast.”

Director Han Jun-hee, known for directing the Netflix series *D.P.* and planning the *Weak Hero* series, serves as the executive producer. Having been involved in the adaptation process from the start, he commented, “Unlike the original work, we sought to delve deeper into the characters' emotions and relationships by leveraging the unique strengths of the drama medium. We wanted to capture not only the thrill of the investigation but also the anxiety and growth of young people as they waver and evolve amidst the events.”

The series will be directed by Jeon Doo-gwan, who served as an assistant director for *D.P.* Season 2 and the drama *Your Taste*, and directed *The Scene: Strange Tales*. Writer Park Hyun-woo and Director Han Jun-hee—who previously collaborated on the Netflix series *Weak Hero Class 2*—have once again joined forces for this project.

The announced cast lineup is already generating significant anticipation. Ryu Jun-yeol, who has demonstrated a wide acting spectrum across genres in works such as the Netflix film *Revelation*, the Netflix series *Field Mouse* and *The 8 Show*, and the films *The Night Owl* and *Believer*, takes on the role of ‘Min-hyuk.’ Min-hyuk is a mysterious man at the center of all the suspicions; attention is focused on what new facets of his acting Ryu Jun-yeol—known for bringing complex inner lives to his characters with his own unique style—will reveal in this role.

Hong Kyung, who has displayed delicate emotional acting and a powerful screen presence in the Netflix film *Good News*, the movie *Hear Me: Our Summer*, and the series *Weak Hero Class 1*, plays ‘Si-on.’ Si-on travels to Australia to uncover the truth behind his older sister’s death. Expectations are high for how Hong Kyung will portray Si-on—a character who becomes increasingly entangled in mystery while tracing his sister’s footsteps in a foreign land—with his characteristic depth and intensity.

Jung Ho-yeon, who captivated global audiences with her unique personality and energy in the film *Hope* and the Netflix series *Squid Game*, takes on the role of ‘Smiley,’ a creator who communicates with people via live broadcasts from Australia. All eyes are on Jung Ho-yeon—who has always commanded a distinct presence—to see how she will transform into ‘Smiley,’ a character with an unpredictable and capricious charm.

Won Ji-an, who has made a strong impression with her unique presence in diverse projects—such as the drama *Waiting for Gyeongdo*, the series *Made in Korea*, and the Netflix series *D.P.*—takes on the role of Si-young, the older sister of the character Si-on. As Si-young serves as the starting point for the entire narrative, Won Ji-an is expected to add depth to the story's mystery and emotional resonance.

Joining the cast is actor Justin Min, who has garnered love from global audiences through his work in Hollywood productions such as the Netflix series *The Umbrella Academy* and *Beef*, as well as the films *After Yang* and *Shortcomings*. He will play Scott, a Korean-American police officer, bringing a dynamic energy to the series.

Meanwhile, *Outback* (working title)—featuring a confirmed cast lineup of Ryu Jun-yeol, Hong Kyung, Jung Ho-yeon, Won Ji-an, and Justin Min—will be released on Netflix.
