[Here is the English version of the article] Busan Appoints Seven New Heads of Public Institutions

Busan has appointed seven new heads of public institutions as part of efforts to bring stability and fresh leadership to city-run agencies under the administration of Mayor Jeon Jae-soo.

The Busan Metropolitan Government held an appointment ceremony Thursday at City Hall, formally installing the new heads of seven public institutions. Their terms will run for two years.

The appointments were made under a city ordinance governing the terms of heads and executives of publicly funded institutions. The ordinance was applied for the first time on June 30, when the terms of the heads of 12 affiliated institutions expired simultaneously.

The seven newly appointed officials are Kim Jong-chul, president of the Busan IT Promotion Agency; Kim Soo-jin, president of the Busan Technology Startup Investment Agency; Song Sung-jun, president of the Busan Cultural Foundation; Kim Yoon-kyu, president of the Busan Cultural Center; Kim Jung-ah, president of the Busan Global City Foundation; Kim Yoon-kyung, president of the Busan Design Promotion Agency; and Cho Jun-young, president of the Busan Women and Family & Lifelong Education Promotion Agency.

The city said it focused on candidates with professional expertise, practical experience and the ability to lead change and innovation. Most of the newly appointed executives are in their 40s and 50s and have worked in both the public and private sectors.

Kim Jong-chul, the new head of the Busan IT Promotion Agency, has extensive experience in the private-sector technology industry, including positions at KT and Naver. He currently serves as CEO of AI Collabo.

Kim Soo-jin, who will head the Busan Technology Startup Investment Agency, has worked at global investment bank Macquarie Securities, German pharmaceutical company Handok and Pizza Hut Korea. He has experience in helping technology companies attract investment and expand overseas.

Song Sung-jun, the new head of the Busan Cultural Foundation, previously served as head of the Busan bureau of SBS News. He is currently a policy planning committee member at the Civic Policy Workshop.

Kim Yoon-kyu, who will lead the Busan Cultural Center, is a professor of theater at Cheongju University and has worked as artistic director of the Trust Dance Company. He also choreographed the opening and closing ceremonies of the 45th National Para Games in 2025.

Kim Jung-ah, president of the Busan Global City Foundation, previously worked as an announcer for TBN Busan Traffic Broadcasting and now heads the media consulting company Jcoms.

Kim Yoon-kyung, the new president of the Busan Design Promotion Agency, is a professor in advertising and brand design at Kaywon University of Art and Design.

Cho Jun-young, who will head the Busan Women and Family & Lifelong Education Promotion Agency, previously served on the Geumjeong District Council and has taught at universities. Her experience includes policy, public administration, and women and family affairs.

The city said the newly appointed heads will use their professional expertise and field experience to stabilize their organizations and address key policy and operational challenges.

Three other institutions — the Busan Credit Guarantee Foundation, Busan Economic Promotion Agency and Busan Technopark — are subject to a city council confirmation hearing process. Their heads are expected to be appointed in October following the hearings.

The city also plans to reopen recruitment for the heads of the Busan Cinema Center and the Busan Institute of Science and Technology Planning and Evaluation.

Mayor Jeon Jae-soo called on the newly appointed executives to make public service, integrity and accountability their top priorities. He also urged them to use their experience and expertise in industry, culture, the arts and education to stabilize their organizations and deliver tangible results for residents.
