Daegu National Science Museum Renovates Children's Play Area; Upgrades Begin on the 14th
The Daegu National Science Museum is revamping its play areas for young visitors. The plan involves replacing aging facilities and enhancing features for physical activity and hands-on experiences, thereby creating a safer environment for families.
The museum announced that construction for the "production and installation of children's play facilities" will begin on the 14th.
The renovation targets the modular play structure area in the Outdoor Science Plaza and the toddler playground located in "Children's World" on the second floor of the Dream Tree Science Hall. Existing facilities will be removed to make way for new play equipment, and the surrounding safety mats will be replaced.
In the Outdoor Science Plaza, the existing equipment will be replaced by a larger modular play structure and a variety of other play facilities. The indoor toddler playground on the second floor of the Dream Tree Science Hall will also feature a modular play structure designed with the children's ages and the specific characteristics of the space in mind.
This project goes beyond simple equipment replacement; the focus is on enhancing play functionality so that children can naturally engage in various physical activities—such as climbing, balancing, and moving around—while they play.
Safety measures are also a key part of the plan. The safety mats surrounding the play areas will be replaced, and once construction is complete, the new facilities will undergo safety inspections and final checks before being opened to the public.
The museum expects this renovation to boost visitor satisfaction among families by expanding the available space—offering not only exhibitions and scientific experiences but also an area where children can freely move their bodies and have fun. Lee Woo-sung, Head of the Exhibition Planning Department at the National Daegu Science Museum, stated, “We are upgrading the play facilities so that children can run and play freely and engage in various physical activities in a safer environment.” He added, “We will maintain rigorous safety management throughout the construction period and continue to create a science museum environment where families can visit with peace of mind.”
Details regarding the construction and operation of the play facilities can be found on the National Daegu Science Museum website.
