Daejeon Metropolitan City Office of Education Strengthens Competence and Adaptability of New Native-Speaking Teachers

The Daejeon Metropolitan City Office of Education has launched a regular training program designed to boost the adaptability of new native-speaking teachers to the local educational environment and significantly strengthen their collaborative teaching skills.

The Office of Education announced that it would conduct job training for 16 new native-speaking English assistant teachers over two days, from September 10 to 11, at the Daejeon International Education Center.

The primary goal of this training is to help new native-speaking teachers gain a deep understanding of Korean school culture and the educational environment. The program was designed to provide comprehensive support for their early adjustment to school life by enabling them to master effective collaborative teaching techniques with Korean teachers and develop skills in classroom management and English camp operations.

The curriculum focuses on enhancing practical adaptability in the field. Moving away from theory-heavy lectures, the program consists largely of hands-on sessions—such as designing lesson activities tailored to students' English proficiency levels and adjusting instruction based on specific classroom situations—that can be immediately applied in actual teaching environments.

Notably, coinciding with the opening of the Daejeon International Education Center, the Office of Education has shifted the training format from the previous online-only method to fully in-person sessions. This change maximizes real-time interaction between instructors and trainees and creates an environment for sharing vivid, practical teaching examples.

The Daejeon Metropolitan City Office of Education expects that this training will equip new native-speaking teachers with the ability to respond flexibly to the various situations they may encounter in the classroom.

Furthermore, the Office anticipates that the enhancement of collaborative teaching skills with Korean teachers will serve as an opportunity to provide local students with higher-quality, more polished English instruction.
