더불어민주당 당대표 경선이 격화되는 가운데 당권 주자가 던지는 메시지가 정당 민주주의의 근간을 위협하고 있다. 특히 당의 본산인 호남을 국면 전환용 갈라치기의 도구로 이용하고, 당내 이견을 “친명 대 반명”이라는 흑백논리로 규정하는 프레임은 심각한 우려를 자아낸다.
다양성과 자율적 비판은 성숙한 당원 민주주의의 핵심이다. 그러나 현재의 선동적 프레임은 당원의 합리적 이성을 마비시키고 공론장을 진영 논리의 도구로 변질시키고 있다. 호남 당원들의 자율적 선택을 폄훼하는 위험한 발언은 당의 뿌리인 호남에 모멸감을 준다. 당원은 진영의 거수기가 아니며, 특정 지역 민심을 편 가르기에 동원하는 방식은 정당의 역동성을 고사시킬 뿐이다.
더 큰 문제는 상황 인식의 오류와 무책임함에 있다. 국가적 위기나 비상사태에서나 동원되어야 할 생사결단식 대립 프레임을 집권 여당의 당대표를 뽑는 일상적 정치 선거에 전면 배치하는 것은 온당치 못하다. 당원들이 바라는 당대표는 대통령 및 정부와 긴밀히 협력하면서도, 잘하는 부분은 확실히 밀어주고 미흡하거나 우려되는 부분에 대해선 당 안팎의 지혜를 모아 건강한 대안을 제시할 수 있는 포용적 리더십이다.
"내 편 아니면 적"이라는 낙인찍기가 팬덤 결집을 위한 손쉬운 수단일지 몰라도, 경선 이후 민주당에 돌이킬 수 없는 분열과 정치적 부담을 남긴다. 내부 이견을 포용하지 못하고 갈라치기로 일관하는 리더십으로는 거대 당을 하나로 묶을 수도, 스펙트럼이 넓은 국민의 마음을 얻을 수도 없다.
민주당을 지켜온 호남과 전국의 당원들은 맹목적 구호가 아닌 자율적 판단으로 성장해 왔다. 당원들이 원하는 당대표는 갈라치기와 흑백논리가 아닌, 다양한 목소리를 품어내고 미래 비전을 제시하는 통합과 합리적 이성의 리더십이다. sjj700@hanmail.net

In particular, the framing that uses Honam—the party’s stronghold—as a tool for divisive tactics to shift the political landscape, and defines internal disagreements through a black-and-white logic of “pro-Myeong versus anti-Myeong,” raises serious concerns.
Diversity and autonomous criticism are the core of mature party member democracy. However, the current inflammatory framing is paralyzing the rational reasoning of party members and transforming the public sphere into a tool of factional logic. Dangerous remarks that disparage the autonomous choices of Honam party members inflict humiliation upon Honam, the very root of the party. Party members are not rubber stamps for a specific faction, and mobilizing the sentiment of a specific region for divisive purposes will only stifle the party’s dynamism.
** The greater problem lies in errors in situational awareness and irresponsibility. It is inappropriate to deploy a life-or-death confrontational framework—which should only be mobilized during national crises or emergencies—front and center in a routine political election to choose the leader of the ruling party. The leader desired by party members is one who cooperates closely with the President and the government, firmly supports what is done well, and offers sound alternatives by gathering wisdom from within and outside the party regarding shortcomings or concerns.
While the "either you are my side or my enemy" labeling may be an easy means to rally the fandom, it leaves the Democratic Party with irreversible division and political burdens after the primary. A leadership that fails to embrace internal disagreements and consistently resorts to divisive tactics cannot unite a massive party nor win the hearts of the public across a broad spectrum.
Party members in the Honam region and across the nation who have defended the Democratic Party have grown through autonomous judgment rather than blind slogans. The party leader desired by the members is not one of divisiveness and black-and-white thinking, but a leadership of unity and rational reason that embraces diverse voices and presents a vision for the future. sjj700@hanmail.net
