이재명 대통령이 12일 한국에 새로 부임한 주한 대사 4명으로부터 신임장을 받은 가운데 미셸 스틸 신임 주한 미국대사와 첫 대면했다.
청와대에 따르면 이 대통령은 이날 오전 청와대 본관에서 미·포르투갈·UAE(아랍에미리트)·아일랜드 등 4개국 신임 주한 대사들과 함께 신임장 제정식을 가지면서 인사를 나눴다.
이 대통령은 신임 대사들에게 "어서오십시오, 환영합니다" 등 인사를 건네며 부임을 환영했다.
스틸 대사는 앞서 지난 4일 조현 외교부 장관에 신임장 사본 제출 후 공식 외교활동에 들어간 상태다.
현 정부 출범 후 주한 미 대사 공석 기간은 약 1년 6개월로 지난 2025년 1월 전임 필립 골드버그 대사 이임 후 스틸 대사가 지난 7월 부임 때까지 공백이 지속된 바 있다.
