(사)홍천유도스포츠클럽은 지난 18일부터 19일까지 홍콩에서 개최된 ‘2026 아시안컵 홍콩 유·청소년 국제유도대회’에 클럽 소속 선수가 사상 처음으로 출전해 금메달 2개를 획득하는 눈부신 성과를 거뒀다고 21일 밝혔다.

이번 대회는 홍콩을 비롯해 호주, 카자흐스탄, 뉴질랜드, 러시아, 사우디아라비아, 미국, 베트남 등 전 세계 12개국에서 내로라하는 청소년 유도 선수들이 대거 출전해 치열한 메달 경쟁을 벌였다.
이 가운데 대한민국 대표로 출전한 홍천유도스포츠클럽의 +90kg급 김재원(양덕중 3년) 선수와 -66kg급 강찬(홍천고 1년) 선수는 생애 첫 국제대회 출전이라는 긴장 속에서도 흔들림 없는 기량을 뽐내며 각 체급 정상에 우뚝 섰다. 세계 각국의 내라만 하는 강자들을 차례로 제압하고 이뤄낸 값진 성과다.

지난 2021년 창단된 (사)홍천유도스포츠클럽은 그동안 매년 강원특별자치도 대회 및 전국 규모 대회에 학생 선수들을 꾸준히 출전시키며 실전 경험과 노하우를 차곡차곡 쌓아왔다. 이번 국제대회 첫 출전 및 동반 금메달 획득은 그간의 체계적인 훈련과 노력이 결실을 맺은 것으로, 홍천 유도의 저력을 세계 무대에 확실히 각인시켰다는 평이다.
