대한축구협회가 주최하는 이번 대회는 대한축구협회와 구미시축구협회, 구미시체육회가 공동 주관하며 문화체육관광부, 국민체육진흥공단, 구미시가 후원한다. 대회는 올해로 4년 연속 구미에서 개최된다.
이번 축제에는 전국 210개 팀에서 선수와 지도자 등 3천여 명이 참가한다. 경기는 U-8(4인제), U-10(6인제), U-12(8인제) 등 3개 부문으로 나뉘어 연령별 풀리그 방식으로 진행된다.
주최 측은 여름철 폭염에 대비해 선수 안전을 최우선으로 운영할 계획이다. 낮 12시 30분부터 오후 4시 30분까지는 경기 일정을 중단하고, 기온이 비교적 낮은 시간대에 경기를 편성해 온열질환 발생 위험을 줄이기로 했다.
경기장에서는 축구 경기 외에도 가족 단위 방문객을 위한 다양한 체험 프로그램이 운영된다. 워터파크존과 문화체험존, ECO존, 축구스킬존, 360도 포토부스, 경품 이벤트 등을 마련해 선수와 가족들이 함께 즐길 수 있는 축제 분위기를 조성할 예정이다.
올해는 신규 프로그램도 선보인다. 대회 둘째 날인 25일에는 전 축구 국가대표 이근호 선수와 함께하는 학부모 토크콘서트와 가족 참여 이벤트가 열려 참가자들이 축구를 매개로 소통하는 시간을 갖는다.
