Starbucks Korea Resumes Senior Barista Training… Plans for Second 'Win-Win Training Center'

Starbucks Korea is resuming its senior barista training program in collaboration with the Korea Senior Club Association and strengthening support for senior employment by expanding its training infrastructure.

Starbucks Korea announced that it will resume its senior barista training support program starting this August in cooperation with the Korea Senior Club Association. In addition, the company plans to expand the scale of senior barista training by establishing a "Second Win-Win Training Center" within the year.

Starbucks has been operating the senior barista training program since 2019 in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Senior Club Association. To date, approximately 2,000 seniors have completed the training, and cumulative support funds invested in establishing training centers and developing win-win beverages have exceeded 3.1 billion won. The second Win-Win Training Center is scheduled to operate alongside the existing Gunpo Win-Win Training Center. Once both centers are operational, the annual training capacity will expand to 1,000 people, double the current level.

To this end, Starbucks held an agreement signing ceremony with the Korea Senior Club Association at the support center on the 20th to establish the Win-Win Training Center.

The new training center will be equipped with an educational environment similar to an actual Starbucks store, featuring espresso machines, ice makers, POS (Point of Sale) systems, and multi-purpose lecture rooms. Starbucks will support the interior design and opening costs of the center, and plans to continue providing practical training through the talent donation of professional in-house instructors.

Approximately 500 seniors are expected to participate in the training, which will run from August until the end of the year. The curriculum consists of practical training—such as coffee extraction, milk steaming, and latte art—along with theoretical education covering coffee bean characteristics and customer service.

In the second half of the year, the "5th Senior Barista Latte Art Competition" will also be held to showcase the skills of senior baristas. Registration for the preliminary rounds begins in late July, and winners are scheduled to be selected through preliminary and final rounds in September and October.

Jo Beom-gi, President of the Korea Senior Club Association, said, "I hope the opening of the second 'Mutual Growth Training Center' will serve as an opportunity to provide more seniors with a chance for a new challenge."

Shin Dong-woo, CEO of Starbucks Korea, said, "I find it meaningful to restart the senior barista job support program," adding, "We will continue to expand our education and support so that seniors can maintain their passion for coffee."
