현대카드가 오는 9월 20세기 현대미술을 대표하는 팝아트 작가 웨인 티보(Wayne Thiebaud)의 국내 첫 회고전을 선보인다.
현대카드는 오는 9월 서울 동대문디자인플라자(DDP)에서 '현대카드 컬처프로젝트 31 웨인 티보 전'을 개최한다고 21일 밝혔다.
이번 전시는 '케이크', '사탕 진열대', '아이스크림', '구두' 등 일상적인 사물을 소재로 한 웨인 티보의 대표 작품을 국내에서 처음으로 소개하는 자리다.
전시는 프랑스 철학자 미셸 푸코의 저서 사물의 질서(The Order of Things)에서 착안해 '질서'를 주제로 작품 세계를 재조명한다. 현대카드는 이를 통해 사물을 바라보고 배열하는 방식에 담긴 티보의 예술 세계를 새로운 시각에서 감상할 수 있도록 구성했다고 설명했다.
관람객들은 웨인 티보를 대표하는 '임파스토(Impasto)' 기법이 적용된 작품들도 만나볼 수 있다. 임파스토는 물감을 두껍게 올려 질감을 표현하는 기법으로, 티보는 케이크의 생크림을 연상시키는 입체적인 붓질을 통해 사물의 존재감을 강조한 것으로 알려져 있다.
이번 회고전은 모더니즘과 팝아트 분야의 큐레이터인 디터 부흐하르트(Dieter Buchhart)와 안나 카리나 호프바우어(Anna Karina Hofbauer)가 공동 기획을 맡았다.
