여기서 냉정하게 짚어야 할 점은, 정부 여당의 실정을 비판하기만 하면 지지율이 올라갈 것이라는 안일한 사고에서 벗어나야 한다는 점이다. 보다 폭넓은 유권층을 견인할 수 있는 근본적인 체질 개선을 통해 대안 정당으로서의 매력을 증명해야 하는 것이 절대적 과제다.
국민의힘이 지지율 정체를 겪는 여러 원인 가운데 하나는 집권세력의 파괴적 입법 강행에 대해 제대로 싸울 줄 모른다는 점이다. 파편화된 채 응축되지 못한 메시지는 정치적 피로감만 부른다. 아울러 여전히 과거의 향수에 젖은 채, 진영논리를 앞세운 낡은 문법도 여전하다.
현상 타개책과 미래 비전 제시도 턱없이 부족하다. 이는 집권세력에 대한 그 어떤 비판도 유권자들에게 대안으로 인식되지 않도록 만든다. 물론 이재명 정권의 독선과 무능을 날카롭게 비판하는 것도 중요하다. 하지만 국민의힘이 그보다 낫다는 것을 입증할 수 있어야 한다는 뜻이다.
첫째, 민생 현장의 고단한 눈물을 입법으로 연결하는 유능함을 보여야 한다. 고물가, 주거 불안, 청년 취업난, 노인 빈곤, 자영업자 폐업 증가 등 우리네 일상을 짓누르는 생존에 관한 문제다. 이에 대한 현실적인 대책을 선점하고, 실질적인 입법 성과를 내야 한다. 이는 공감과 신뢰로 이어진다.
둘째, 경직된 보수의 틀을 깨야 한다. 보수적 가치를 현대적으로 유연하게 재해석하고, 사회·경제적 약자를 비롯한 청년과 수도권 유권자들을 향해 진정성 있는 소통 창구를 열어야 한다. 이들의 목소리가 실제로 반영되는 가시적인 변화가 나타날 때, 비로소 국민의힘을 재평가하게 될 것이다.
셋째, 미래지향적 담론을 주도해야 한다. 인구 절벽, AI 산업 경쟁력, 기후·에너지 전환, 외교·안보와 한반도 평화통일 등 국가 공동체의 생존과 번영을 좌우할 의제에서 주도권을 쥐어야 한다. 과거의 유산에 집착하기보다, 더 나은 대한민국을 설계하는 혁신적 리더십이 절실하다.
정치는 결국 감성을 두드리는 공감과 이성을 움직이는 논리적 설득이 함께 갈 때 작동한다. 이제 국민의힘이 풀어야 할 해법은 과거가 아닌 미래, 말이 아닌 실천에 있다. 정권 비판에만 머무는 것이 아니라, 국민의 오늘과 내일을 개선하겠다는 끈질긴 대안의 면모를 입증하는 데 있는 것이다.

The People Power Party: A Time When a Future Vision as an Alternative Force Is Desperately Needed

Since relinquishing power, the People Power Party is still being criticized for failing to adequately demonstrate its role as an opposition party. While their determination to regain power is strong, there is rarely a clear reason to choose the People Power Party. This is the consequence of having focused solely on consolidating their hardline support base while claiming to be the original conservative force.
What must be addressed objectively here is that they must break free from the complacent mindset that simply criticizing the government and the ruling party's mismanagement will boost their approval ratings. The absolute task is to prove their appeal as an alternative party through fundamental structural reforms that can attract a broader electorate.
One of the reasons for the People Power Party's stagnant approval ratings is that they do not know how to properly fight against the ruling power's destructive legislative forceful implementation. Fragmented and uncondensed messages only lead to political fatigue. Furthermore, they remain steeped in nostalgia for the past and persist with outdated rhetoric that prioritizes partisan logic.
The presentation of solutions to the status quo and a vision for the future is woefully inadequate. This prevents any criticism of the ruling power from being perceived by voters as a viable alternative. Of course, it is important to sharply criticize the arrogance and incompetence of the Lee Jae-myung administration. However, this implies that the People Power Party must be able to prove that it is superior.
First, the party must demonstrate the competence to translate the weary tears of the people into legislation. These are issues of survival that weigh down our daily lives, such as high inflation, housing insecurity, youth unemployment, poverty among the elderly, and the rising number of business closures among the self-employed. The party must preemptively secure realistic measures for these issues and produce tangible legislative results. This leads to empathy and trust.
Second, the party must break the rigid framework of conservatism. It must reinterpret conservative values in a modern and flexible manner and open sincere channels of communication toward the socially and economically vulnerable, as well as young people and voters in the metropolitan area. Only when visible changes emerge in which their voices are actually reflected will the People Power Party be re-evaluated.
Third, the party must lead future-oriented discourse. We must seize the initiative on agendas that will determine the survival and prosperity of our national community, such as the demographic cliff, the competitiveness of the AI industry, the climate and energy transition, diplomacy and national security, and the peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula. Rather than clinging to the legacy of the past, we urgently need innovative leadership that designs a better Korea.
Ultimately, politics works when empathy that touches the emotions goes hand in hand with logical persuasion that moves reason. The solution that the People Power Party must now find lies in the future, not the past; in action, not words. It lies not in merely criticizing the administration, but in demonstrating the qualities of a persistent alternative committed to improving the present and future of the people.
