전남광주통합특별시는 여수시가 운영한 ‘2026년 여순사건 지역전문가 양성과정’을 통해 총 30명의 전문인력을 양성했다고 지난 15일 밝혔다.
이번 과정은 여순사건 교육·문화 지원사업의 일환으로 마련됐다. 역사적 사실과 의미를 올바르게 이해하고 이를 대중에 전달할 전문 지식을 갖춘 인적 자원을 육성하는 것이 목표다. 교육은 지난 4월부터 여수시민 50명을 대상으로 총 15회에 걸쳐 진행됐으며, 엄격한 수료 기준을 통과한 30명이 최종 교육을 마쳤다.
교육 프로그램은 단순 이론 교육에 그치지 않고 심층적이고 다각적인 커리큘럼으로 구성됐다. 구체적으로는 ▲여순사건의 과거와 현재 ▲한국의 분단·통일과 평화 ▲제주4·3의 이해 ▲여순사건의 원인과 전개 과정 ▲사회적 영향 ▲계엄령과 군법회의 ▲해방 전후 여수 사람들 ▲여순사건과 미군의 역할 ▲학살 유형 ▲역사적 의미 등 깊이 있는 이론 강의가 진행됐다.

특히 교육의 전문성과 해설 활동에 필요한 실무 역량을 검증하기 위해 발표 수업과 필기시험 등 종합 평가가 치러졌다. 평가에서 우수한 성적을 거둔 수료생들에게는 향후 전문적인 해설 활동을 보증하는 ‘여순사건 해설가증’이 수여됐다.
이번에 배출된 전문인력들은 앞으로 각급 학교 등을 대상으로 한 ‘여순사건 바로알기 교육’과 주요 유적지 해설 등 다양한 교육·홍보 현장에 투입되어 활동할 예정이다.
