루마니아는 현재 EU의 일원이자 나토의 회원국이다. 그렇기 때문에 경제 활동도 EU와 함께 공유하는 경우가 많다. 특히 2017년 2월에는 루마니아 에너지관리청인 ANRE에서 에너지 기업 블랙시오 일 앤드개스가 2018년 중반부터 흑해에서 천연가스 생산을 시작한다고 밝히기도 했다. 블랙시오 일 앤드개스는 루마니아의 흑해 대륙붕 2곳인 미디아, 펠리칸 대륙붕에서 연간 최대 40억㎥ 천연가스를 생산하고 있는 중이다.
루마니아 당국은 2017년에 미디아-펠리칸 대륙붕에서 첫 해 생산량을 10억㎥로 끌어올렸다. 루마니아는 미디아-펠리칸 대륙붕 천연가스 생산으로 연간 5억∼6억㎥ 규모에 이르는 수입량을 대체할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 남는 양을 수출할 수 있으리라 기대했다. 미디아·펠리칸 대륙붕 천연가스를 개발하는 블랙시오 일 앤드개스는 글로벌 에너지 기업 칼라일 인터내셔널의 자회사로 알려져 있다.
본래 동유럽의 최대 산유국으로 알려진 루마니아가 석유를 수입으로 바꾸었다. 플로이에슈티 유전이 루마니아에 있기 때문에 한 때는 석유를 자급하였지만 최근에는 수요가 늘어나 해당 유전에서 추출하는 원유의 양이 크게 늘었기 때문에 다른 나라에서 수입하게 되었다. 그 외 천연가스 총 생산량의 5%가 루마니아에서 나오고 있다. 기타 산업으로 루마니아는 농업이 발달했다. 전통적으로 밀, 옥수수, 포도, 해바라기씨 등이 세계 생산량 상위 10%에 들어갈 정도로 풍부하다. 더불어 맥주가 물보다 저렴한 나라로 알려져 있지만, 맥주보다도 포도주의 품질이 아주 뛰어나기로 유명하다.
기후가 포도 생산에 적합하기 때문에 포도 생산량이 매우 많은 것이 특징이다. EU의 가입 이후, 경제가 제조업을 위주로 크게 증진되었다. 경제 성장률이 동유럽에서 높은 편으로 동유럽 국가가 그렇듯이 EU의 공장이 많이 들어서고 있다. 더불어 높은 인적 자본에 힘입어 경제 성장이 일구어지고 있는 편이다. IT 분야는 대표 회사들은 적게 나타나지만 다국적 기업들의 진출이 많은 편이다. HP나 마이크로소프트등이 진출해있고 마이크로소프트의 유럽 데이터 센터가 루마니아에 있다. 이러한 이유로 인해 인터넷 속도 순위를 보면 루마니아는 상당히 높은 순위에 랭크되고 있다.
유럽에서 빵을 생산하는 능력이 최상급이라 이름 붙을 정도로 농업이 두드러지게 나타난 편이지만 한국에서는 프랑스와 폴란드, 우크라이나 평원이 흑토의 이미지가 강하게 나타나고 있기 때문에 많이 알려진 것이 없다. 대표 제품이라 할만한 것들 중에서 가장 유명한 것은 유럽 시장에서 저가 차량으로 크게 알려진 자동차 제조 기업인 다치아(Dacia)가 있다. 국내에서 알려진 것들은 안티에이징의 선두주자로 알려진 제로비탈 화장품이 있고, 안티 바이러스 업체인 비트디펜더가 있다. 두 회사 모두 각각 한국에도 지사를 가지고 있다.
비트디펜더의 인지도는 다른 국외 제품 면에서는 떨어지고 있지만, 국내에서 기술 OEM으로 10개 가까운 업체들이 사용 중이어서 실질적으로 가장 널리 사용되는 외산 보안 제품이라고 볼 수 있다. 루마니아 측 엔진을 사용하는 대표적인 안티 바이러스 제품은 알약과 하우리, 바이러스 체이서라 볼 수 있으며 자동화 솔루션인 RPA 솔루션 중 현재 독보적인 세계 1위를 하고 있는 UI Path 역시 루마니아에서 만들었다. 또한 워드 프레스 테마 제작사 중 세계적으로 널리 알려진 Hestia, Zelif lite (프로버전은 Zelle PRO), NEVE 등의 테마를 제작한 유명 테마 제작사인 Themeisle도 루마니아 기업으로 알려져 있다. lukybaby7@gmail.com

Romania is currently a member of both the EU and NATO. Consequently, it often shares economic activities with the EU. Notably, in February 2017, ANRE, the Romanian Energy Agency, announced that the energy company Black Sea Il & Gas would begin natural gas production in the Black Sea starting in mid-2018. Black Sea Il & Gas is currently producing up to 4 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually from two of Romania's Black Sea continental shelves: the Midia and Pelican shelves.
In 2017, Romanian authorities increased the first-year production volume from the Midia-Pelican shelf to 1 billion cubic meters. Romania expected that natural gas production from the Midia-Pelican shelf would not only replace annual imports amounting to 500 to 600 million cubic meters but also allow for the export of any surplus. Black Sea and Gas, which develops natural gas on the continental shelf of Media and Pelican, is known to be a subsidiary of the global energy company Carlyle International.
Romania, originally known as the largest oil producer in Eastern Europe, has shifted to importing oil. Although the country was once self-sufficient in oil due to the Ploiești oil field located there, recent increases in demand have led to a significant increase in the amount of crude oil extracted from that field, resulting in imports from other countries. Additionally, Romania accounts for 5% of the country's total natural gas production. Regarding other industries, agriculture is well-developed in Romania. Furthermore, economic growth is being achieved thanks to its high human capital. While there are few leading IT companies, there is a significant presence of multinational corporations. Companies such as HP and Microsoft have established a presence, and Microsoft’s European data center is located in Romania. For this reason, Romania ranks quite highly in internet speed rankings.
Agriculture is prominent enough to be considered top-tier in Europe for bread production; however, this is not widely known in Korea because the image of the black soil is strongly associated with France, Poland, and the Ukrainian plains. Among the representative products, the most famous is Dacia, an automobile manufacturer widely known in the European market for its affordable vehicles. Products known domestically include Zerovital cosmetics, known as a leader in anti-aging, and Bitdefender, an antivirus company. Both companies have branches in Korea.
Although Bitdefender’s brand recognition lags behind that of other foreign products, it is used by nearly 10 domestic companies through technical OEM, making it practically the most widely used foreign security product. Representative antivirus products utilizing engines from Romania include Alyac, Haury, and Virus Chaser. UI Path, which currently holds the undisputed number one position globally among RPA solutions, was also developed in Romania. Furthermore, Themeisle, a renowned WordPress theme developer known for creating globally famous themes such as Hestia, Zelif lite (the pro version is Zelle PRO), and NEVE, is also known to be a Romanian company.
