의성군은 오는 11일부터 23일까지 의성컬링센터에서 ‘2026 KB금융 한국컬링선수권대회’를 개최한다고 밝혔다.
이번 대회는 대한컬링연맹이 주최·주관하고 KB금융그룹이 타이틀 후원하는 국가대표 선발전으로, 2026~2027시즌 대한민국 컬링 국가대표를 결정하는 무대다.
특히 의성에서 국가대표 선발전이 열리는 것은 지난 2016년 이후 처음으로, 국내 컬링의 중심지로 자리매김해 온 의성의 위상을 다시 한번 확인하는 계기가 될 것으로 기대를 모으고 있다.
대회는 10일 개회식을 시작으로 본격적인 일정에 돌입했다. 11일부터 남녀 4인조 종목 경기가 진행되며, 오는 16일 결승전을 통해 각 부문 국가대표 팀이 최종 확정된다.
이어 19일부터는 믹스더블 국가대표 선발전이 열려 23일 최종 우승팀을 가린다.
여자부에는 의성군청을 비롯해 경기도청, 전북도청, 강릉시청, 서울시청 등 모두 8개 팀이 출전한다. 남자부는 의성군청, 경북체육회, 강원도청, 서울시청 등 7개 팀이 참가해 국가대표 자격을 놓고 경쟁을 펼친다.
의성군은 이번 대회를 통해 전국 컬링 팬들과 관계자들의 방문이 이어질 것으로 예상하고 있으며, 지역 홍보와 스포츠 관광 활성화에도 도움이 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
