포천시는 지난 5일부터 7일까지 사흘간 포천시 무형유산 전수교육관에서 국가무형유산 제113호 칠장 공개행사인 ‘나전, 옻칠의 길’을 개최했다고 8일 밝혔다.

이번 행사는 전통 옻칠 공예의 명맥을 굳건히 잇고 있는 칠장 보유자 정수화 선생을 비롯해 정기환 이수자, 최향목 전수생이 직접 나서 시민들에게 고품격 칠예의 진수를 선보이는 뜻깊은 자리로 마련됐다.
‘칠장(漆匠)’은 옻나무에서 채취한 생옻의 수분과 불순물을 정제해 기물에 여러 번 덧칠하는 고난도의 전통 기술이다. 뼈를 깎는 정제와 반복의 과정을 거쳐 탄생한 작품은 특유의 견고한 내구성과 깊은 광택을 띠며 예술적 가치를 발한다.
