SK Hynix to Build ‘Fully Autonomous Fab’ with Nvidia... Solidifying AI Alliance

SK Hynix is partnering with Nvidia to jointly develop next-generation memory for the construction of a global "AI Factory."

The two companies have decided to elevate their years of collaboration to the next level, strengthening a long-term technology partnership that encompasses everything from semiconductor design to manufacturing and supply chain establishment.

On the 8th, SK Hynix announced that it had signed a long-term partnership centered on the joint development and supply of memory aligned with Nvidia's next-generation AI infrastructure roadmap.

This collaboration aims to establish a stable supply system and sustain advanced manufacturing and capital investment, considering the characteristics of advanced memory, which has a long development cycle.

In particular, the two companies plan to significantly expand the scope of their cooperation beyond AI accelerators for data centers into the personal equipment and robotics markets. Key joint development targets include the Vera Rubin AI supercomputer, Vera CPU, RTX Spark PC, and Jetson Thor robotic computing platform.

Through this, SK Hynix has secured a solid foothold to enter next-generation markets, including not only AI infrastructure but also Personal AI and Physical AI.

In addition, the two companies are joining forces to advance semiconductor design automation (EDA) and process simulation. SK Hynix plans to significantly boost the efficiency of semiconductor design and manufacturing processes by adopting NVIDIA’s ‘CUDA-X’ library and ‘PhysicsNeMo’ framework.

This includes TCAD (Technical Computer-Aided Design), which analyzes semiconductor process characteristics, and computational lithography technology for implementing microcircuits. Moving forward, the two companies intend to lead innovation in the development environment by establishing a ‘triangular cooperation system’ involving semiconductor manufacturers, NVIDIA, and EDA software companies.

The digital transformation of manufacturing processes is also set to begin in earnest. SK Hynix is advancing its "Digital Twin" technology, which replicates actual semiconductor factories in a 3D virtual space by utilizing NVIDIA's "Omniverse" library and "OpenUSD" technology.

In addition, it is combining "cuOpt," a GPU-accelerated decision optimization engine, with the "Metropolis" platform. Through this, the company plans to maximize the operational efficiency of autonomous mobile robots (AMRs) and key equipment within the factory, while simultaneously pursuing the operation of a "fully autonomous fab" where AI analyzes fab operational data in real time to automate tasks. Jensen Huang, Founder and CEO of NVIDIA, stated, “AI factories are the engines of the next industrial revolution, and advanced memory is the core of their performance.” He added, “SK Hynix is an outstanding partner that has played a key role in providing advanced memory technology for NVIDIA’s AI computing platform. We will jointly develop next-generation memory for AI factories and support the acceleration of global AI infrastructure expansion, ranging from frontier model training to agentic AI and physical AI.”

Choi Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, said, “This partnership demonstrates the depth of the collaboration that SK Hynix and NVIDIA have shared for many years. By jointly developing next-generation memory for AI factories and applying AI to semiconductor design and manufacturing, the two companies will together shape the future of AI infrastructure.”
