포항제철소는 지난 29일 선재 제품 고객사인 대호특수강 포항사업장을 방문해 산업안전 수준 향상을 위한 맞춤형 현장 안전 컨설팅을 진행했다고 밝혔다.
이번 컨설팅은 고객사의 자율적인 안전관리 체계를 강화하고 보다 안전한 작업환경을 조성하기 위해 마련됐다. 포스코는 단순한 제품 공급을 넘어 고객사의 안전 경쟁력 향상을 지원하는 동반성장 모델 구축에 중점을 두고 있다.
이날 포항제철소 선재부는 사업장 내 소방시설 운영 현황과 위험물 관리 체계를 집중적으로 점검했다. 안전관리 기준 준수 여부를 확인하는 한편 현장 근로자들의 의견과 건의사항을 수렴하며 실질적인 개선 방안을 모색했다.
특히 공정안전관리(PSM)를 비롯해 소방·위험물 관리 체계 고도화에 초점을 맞춰 일상적인 안전관리 수준부터 비상 대응 절차까지 전반적인 운영 현황을 점검하고, 현장에서 즉시 적용할 수 있는 개선책을 제시했다.
대호특수강 관계자는 “소방과 위험물 관리 분야는 전문성이 요구되는 영역인 만큼 자체 점검만으로는 한계가 있었다”며 “포항제철소의 체계적인 진단을 통해 잠재적인 위험 요소를 사전에 확인하고 개선할 수 있는 계기가 됐다”고 말했다.
포스코 선재부 정석준 부장은 “고객사들이 제안된 개선 사항을 현장에 반영하며 더욱 안전한 사업장으로 발전하는 모습을 보며 큰 보람을 느낀다”며 “앞으로도 고객사들이 안전한 환경에서 생산활동에 전념할 수 있도록 다양한 지원을 이어가겠다”고 밝혔다.
한편 포항제철소는 지난 4월 삼원강재를 대상으로 한 안전 컨설팅에 이어 이번 대호특수강 지원까지 고객 맞춤형 안전 지원 활동을 지속적으로 추진하고 있다. 향후에는 지원 대상을 확대하고 사후 점검과 재평가까지 연계해 철강 산업 전반의 안전문화 정착에 힘쓸 계획이다.

In particular, focusing on the advancement of fire safety and hazardous materials management systems, including Process Safety Management (PSM), the company inspected the overall operational status—ranging from routine safety management to emergency response procedures—and presented improvement measures that could be immediately applied on-site.
An official from Daeho Special Steel stated, "Since fire safety and hazardous materials management are areas requiring specialized expertise, relying solely on internal inspections had its limitations." He added, "Pohang Steelworks' systematic diagnosis provided an opportunity to identify potential risk factors in advance and implement improvements."
Jeong Seok-jun, General Manager of POSCO's Wire Rod Division, remarked, "I feel a great sense of reward seeing our clients incorporate the proposed improvements into their operations and develop into safer workplaces." He further stated, "We will continue to provide various forms of support so that our clients can focus on production activities in a safe environment."
Meanwhile, Pohang Steelworks is continuously pursuing customized safety support activities, extending from the safety consulting provided to Samwon Steel in April to this latest support for Daeho Special Steel. Moving forward, the company plans to expand the scope of support and integrate follow-up inspections and re-evaluations to strive for the establishment of a safety culture throughout the steel industry.
