대전신흥초등학교 야구부가 전국 규모의 유소년 야구대회에서 빼어난 조직력을 과시하며 시상대에 올랐다.
대전신흥초는 대한야구소프트볼협회가 주최하고 광주광역시 야구소프트볼협회가 공동 주관해 지난 5일부터 15일까지 광주 무등경기장에서 열린 ‘제3회 대통령배 전국유소년야구대회’에서 최종 3위를 차지했다.
이번 대회에서 대전신흥초는 첫 경기부터 매서운 화력을 뿜어냈다. 인천 동막초와의 개막전에서 16-0이라는 압도적인 점수 차로 대승을 거두며 기세를 올린 대전신흥초는 충남 천안남산초를 8-3으로 제압했다.
이어 홈그라운드의 이점을 안은 광주 송정동초와의 맞대결에서도 8-6으로 짜릿한 승리를 거두며 준결승 티켓을 거머쥐었다.
14일에 치러진 준결승전에서 대전신흥초는 전통의 강호 경기 부천북초를 맞아 끝까지 포기하지 않는 투혼을 발휘했으나, 아쉽게도 결승 문턱에서 좌절하며 대회를 마무리했다.
그러나 전국 무대에서 최종 3위라는 성적을 거두며 지역 유소년 야구의 저력을 유감없이 증명했다.
서용식 대전신흥초 교장은 사령탑의 체계적인 전술 지도와 하나로 뭉친 선수들의 단합력이 만들어낸 값진 결실이라며, 뜨거운 뙤약볕 아래에서 투지를 불태운 선수들과 성원을 보내준 학부모들에게 감사를 전한다고 밝혔다.
대통령배 대회를 성공적으로 마무리한 대전신흥초는 이달 말 부산에서 개막하는 제55회 전국소년체육대회에 출전해 다시 한번 전국 제패를 향한 도전에 나설 예정이다.
학교 측은 이번 대회를 통해 노출된 보완점을 다듬어 선수들의 전술 완성도를 높이고 정신력을 재무장하겠다는 구상이다.
