35년이라는 긴 시간 동안 한국 문단의 한 축을 묵묵히 지켜온 종합문예지 <포스트모던>이 새로운 문학 인재들을 맞이하며 뜻깊은 축제를 열었다. 지난 2월 28일, 전북 고창군 부안면에 위치한 미당시문학관 질마재시인마을 복합문화공간에서 <포스트모던> 통권 54호 출간 기념회와 더불어 ‘2026 신춘문예 시상식’이 미당시문학관 후원으로 성황리에 개최됐다.
이번 행사는 단순히 일 년에 한 번 열리는 연례행사를 넘어, 1991년 창간 이후 <포스트모던>이 일궈온 문학적 성과를 집대성하고 한국 문단의 미래를 짊어질 신진 작가들의 탄생을 축하하는 자리였다. 늦겨울의 차가운 바람이 대지를 스치던 날이었으나, 행사장 안팎은 고창이 품은 유구한 인문학적 온기와 전국에서 모여든 문인들의 뜨거운 열정으로 가득 찼다.

시대의 통찰과 실험 정신… 4개 부문 신진 작가 대거 등단
이번 2026 <포스트모던> 신춘문예는 평론, 시, 수필, 소설 등 전 분야에 걸쳐 치열한 예심과 본심을 거쳤다. 심사위원단은 작품의 기술적 완성도뿐만 아니라, 작가가 세상을 바라보는 고유한 시선과 시대적 아픔을 외면하지 않는 치열한 작가 정신을 중점적으로 살폈다. 당선작들은 급변하는 현대 사회 속에서도 인간 본연의 가치를 잃지 않으려는 사유와 독창적인 문체를 갖추어, 우리 문단에 새로운 활력을 불어넣을 것으로 기대를 모은다.
평론 부문에서는 전명숙 씨가 <오래된 미래로서의 인문장소> 외 1편으로 당선의 영예를 안았다. 심사위원단은 해당 작품이 물리적 공간을 넘어 기억과 철학이 교차하는 ‘장소’의 인문학적 거점 기능을 심도 있게 분석했다는 점에 주목했다. 평론가는 삭막한 현대 도시 문명 속에서 우리가 잃어버린 ‘장소의 혼’을 문학적으로 어떻게 복원할 것인가에 대한 화두를 던졌다. 특히 인문학의 위기가 논의되는 이 시대에 문학이 뿌리 내려야 할 토양을 성찰하려는 시도가 돋보였다는 찬사를 보냈다.
시 부문은 이번 공모에서 가장 뜨거운 경합이 벌어진 분야로, 총 10명의 당선자가 배출되며 문단의 주목을 받았다. 김영옥(<오월의 비>), 김정술(<선비와 순이선생>), 나정주(<고창읍성의 봄>), 엄희경(<은빛 하중>), 우성희(<박힌 빛>), 윤정화(<리듬 쿵! 나의 아침>), 이국영(<엄마라는 이름>), 장권(<짝사랑>), 조민주(<치료의 선물>), 한종엽(<거품과 빛의 차이>) 시인이 그 주인공이다.
이들은 정통 서정시부터 현대적인 리듬감, 사회적 약자를 향한 따뜻한 시선에 이르기까지 다채로운 시적 스펙트럼을 보여주었다. 특히 나정주 시인은 고창의 구체적인 지역성을 문학적 보편성으로 승화시켰으며, 한종엽 시인은 존재의 가벼움과 빛의 속성을 철학적으로 탐구하여 높은 점수를 받았다. 시인들의 작품은 때로는 빗방울처럼 섬세하고, 때로는 아침의 북소리처럼 강렬하게 독자들의 가슴에 파고들었다.
수필 부문에서는 나희준, 박정현, 김현주, 오희정 등 4인이 선정됐다. 이들은 자칫 평범하게 지나칠 수 있는 일상의 찰나에서 삶의 본질적인 지혜를 길어 올리는 성찰적 문장을 선보였다. '말을 걸 용기'나 '정지된 시간'과 같은 주제를 통해 현대인들이 놓치고 사는 내면의 목소리를 복원해냈다. 개인의 경험을 타인과 공유할 수 있는 보편적 깨달음으로 확장시킨 이들의 글은 수필 문학이 가진 치유와 위로의 힘을 여실히 증명했다는 평가다.
소설 부문은 이형구(중편 <청구서>), 정성현(중편 <가온누리 세책점>), 이승민(중편 <거룡의 꿈>) 작가가 탄탄한 서사 구조를 바탕으로 등단했다. 이형구 작가는 자본의 논리와 사회적 부조리를 ‘청구서’라는 날카로운 상징으로 파헤치며 현대인의 실존적 불안을 예리하게 묘사했다. 정성현 작가는 책을 매개로 한 역사적 상상력을 발휘하여 독자들을 과거와 현재가 교차하는 서사의 미로로 안내했으며, 이승민 작가는 중편 소설 특유의 묵직한 서사적 스케일과 섬세한 인물 묘사를 선보이며 향후 한국 소설계를 이끌어갈 유망주로서의 면모를 드러냈다.

문학의 숨결과 예술의 선율이 만난 고창의 밤
행사가 열린 고창 미당시문학관은 한국 문학의 거장 미당 서정주 시인의 문학적 유산이 깃든 상징적인 장소다. 이곳에서 시상식을 개최한 것은 선배 문인들의 정신을 계승하고, 그 뿌리 위에서 새로운 꽃을 피우겠다는 포스트모던의 의지가 담겨 있다.
강행원 회장은 인사말에서 “5년 전 제주에 미술관을 세우고 문학의 터전을 닦았던 마음으로, 오늘 고창에서 새로운 문학적 결실을 보게 되어 감개무량하다”며, “오늘 첫발을 내딛는 신인들이 <포스트모던>의 정신을 이어받아 시대의 아픔을 위로하고 새로운 사유를 제시하는 거목으로 성장하길 바란다”고 격려의 메시지를 전했다.
1부 출판기념회에서는 <포스트모던> 54호에 담긴 ‘고창 특집’이 심도 있게 소개됐다. 이번 특집은 고창을 세계적인 인문학 거점으로 조명하기 위해 기획되었다. 판소리를 집대성한 동리 신재효의 업적을 현대적 시각에서 고찰한 ‘K-컬처의 원천’부터, 고창의 고인돌이 건네는 태고의 메시지, 그리고 동학농민혁명의 서사적 가치를 분석한 글들이 실렸다.
특히 미당의 동생이자 그 자체로 독보적인 시 세계를 구축한 서정태 시인의 자취를 따라가는 ‘서정태 시인을 찾아 우하정으로 가는 길’은 독자들에게 깊은 사유의 시간을 제공했다. 이는 지역 문학의 가치를 발굴하여 이를 중앙 문단과 연결하려는 잡지의 노력이 돋보이는 대목이었다.
이어지는 예술 공연은 행사의 분위기를 절정으로 이끌었다. 시샘 김양경 시낭송가의 서정적인 낭송은 장내를 시의 향기로 가득 채웠으며, 참석자들은 낭송되는 한 구절 한 구절에 깊이 몰입했다. 기타리스트 야니 김도연과 야을, 야농의 축하 공연은 ‘Quelques Notes Pour Anna’ 등 깊이 있는 선율을 통해 문학과 음악이 어우러진 화려한 콜라보레이션을 완성했다. 음악의 선율은 시의 운율과 결합하여 참석자들에게 잊지 못할 감동의 파동을 전달했다.
2부 시상식은 김현수 뮤지션 공연과 함께 이상숙 시인의 신춘문예 당선 축하 시낭송이 아우러져 더욱 따뜻한 분위기 속에서 진행됐다. 시상자로 나선 강행원, 지성찬, 김영환 선생은 상장과 함께 고창의 정성이 담긴 특산물인 ‘지주식 김’과 ‘황토 꿀고구마’를 부상으로 전달했다.
이 이색적인 부상은 문학이 높은 상아탑 안에만 갇힌 학문이 아니라, 우리네 삶이 일궈지는 토양 및 지역의 생명력과 호흡하는 살아있는 문화임을 다시 한번 확인시켜준 대목이었다. 수상자들은 고창의 맛과 멋이 담긴 선물을 받으며 환한 미소를 지었다.

Postmodern, a comprehensive literary magazine that has quietly maintained a cornerstone of the Korean literary world for 35 years, held a meaningful festival to welcome new literary talent. On February 28th, the publication ceremony for the 54th issue of Postmodern and the "2026 Spring Literary Awards Ceremony" were held successfully at the Midang Poetry Museum's Jilmajae Poet Village Complex Cultural Space in Buan-myeon, Gochang County, Jeollabuk-do, sponsored by the Midang Poetry Museum.
This event was more than just an annual event; it celebrated the literary achievements of Postmodern since its launch in 1991 and celebrated the emergence of emerging writers who will lead the future of the Korean literary world. It was a cold, late-winter day, and the chill of late winter blew across the land, yet the venue was filled with the warmth of Gochang's enduring humanities and the fervent passion of writers from across the country.
This event went beyond a simple award ceremony, serving as a true "place for literary harmony," where established and emerging writers explored the future direction of modern literature, building on Gochang's rich literary heritage, and sharing their perspectives on the times. Led by Postmodern Literary Society President Kang Haeng-won, the event was graced by over 100 guests, including literary veterans who traveled from Jeju, Seoul, Gangwon, and other regions across the country, as well as Gochang-based writers and officials.

The insight and experimental spirit of the times... A Large Number of New Writers Debut in Four Categories
The 2026 <Postmodern> Spring Literary Contest went through rigorous preliminary and final judging across all categories, including criticism, poetry, essays, and novels. The judges focused not only on the technical perfection of each work, but also on the writer's unique perspective on the world and the fiercely creative spirit that never disregarded the pain of the times. The winning works are expected to inject new vitality into our literary world, showcasing a unique style and a reflection on the inherent value of humanity even in a rapidly changing modern society.
In the criticism category, Jeon Myeong-sook won the award for "Humanities Places as an Old Future" and another work. The judges noted that this work deeply analyzed the function of "places" as humanistic hubs, transcending physical space and intersecting with memory and philosophy. The critic posed the question of how we can restore the "soul of place" lost in the bleakness of modern urban civilization through literary means. In particular, the contest received praise for its attempt to reflect on the soil in which literature should take root, especially in an era where the crisis of the humanities is being discussed.
The poetry category was the most competitive of the contest, with ten winners garnering significant attention from the literary community. These winners include Kim Young-ok ("May Rain"), Kim Jeong-sul ("Scholar and Teacher Suni"), Na Jeong-ju ("Spring in Gochang Fortress"), Eom Hee-kyung ("Silver Heavy Load"), Woo Seong-hee ("Sticked Light"), Yoon Jeong-hwa ("Rhythm Kung! My Morning"), Lee Guk-young ("The Name Mother"), Jang Gwon ("Unrequited Love"), Jo Min-ju ("The Gift of Healing"), and Han Jong-yeop ("The Difference Between Foam and Light").
These poets showcased a diverse poetic spectrum, ranging from traditional lyric poetry to a contemporary sense of rhythm and a compassionate gaze toward the socially disadvantaged. Poet Na Jeong-ju, in particular, sublimated the specific regionality of Gochang into literary universality, while poet Han Jong-yeop received high marks for his philosophical exploration of the lightness of existence and the nature of light. Their works, sometimes as delicate as raindrops and sometimes as powerful as the sound of a morning drum, penetrated readers' hearts.
In the essay category, four poets were selected: Na Hee-jun, Park Jeong-hyeon, Kim Hyun-joo, and Oh Hee-jung. They presented reflective prose that drew essential wisdom from everyday moments that could easily be overlooked. Through themes like "the courage to speak" and "stopped time," they restored the inner voice often overlooked by modern people. Their writing, which expanded personal experiences into universal enlightenment that can be shared with others, is recognized as a powerful demonstration of the healing and comforting power of essay writing.
In the novel category, Lee Hyung-gu (novel "Bills"), Jeong Seong-hyeon (novel "Gaon Nuri Bookstore"), and Lee Seung-min (novel "Geo-ryong's Dream") debuted with solid narrative structures. Lee Hyung-gu, using the sharp symbol of the "bill" to explore the logic of capitalism and social absurdity, sharply portrayed the existential anxiety of modern people. Jeong Seong-hyeon, using the medium of books to demonstrate his historical imagination, guided readers into a narrative maze where past and present intersect. Lee Seung-min, showcasing the weighty narrative scale and nuanced characterization characteristic of novellas, revealed himself as a promising young writer poised to lead the Korean literary scene.

A Night in Gochang: Where the Breath of Literature Meets the Melodies of Art
The Gochang Midang Poetry Museum, where the event was held, is a symbolic location steeped in the literary legacy of Midang Seo Jeong-ju, a master of Korean literature. Holding the awards ceremony here embodies the Postmodern movement's commitment to upholding the spirit of its predecessors and blossoming new flowers upon those roots.
In his opening remarks, President Kang Haeng-won said, "Five years ago, I founded an art museum in Jeju and laid the foundation for literature. I am deeply moved to witness this new literary achievement in Gochang today." He added, "I hope that the newcomers taking their first steps today will inherit the spirit of Postmodern and grow into giants who comfort the pain of our times and offer new perspectives."
The first part of the publication celebration featured an in-depth introduction to the "Gochang Special Feature" from the 54th issue of Postmodern. This special feature was designed to highlight Gochang as a global hub for the humanities. The publication included articles that examined the achievements of Dongri Shin Jae-hyo, who compiled pansori, from a modern perspective, starting with "The Source of K-Culture," analyzing the ancient messages conveyed by Gochang's dolmens, and the narrative value of the Donghak Peasant Revolution.
In particular, "The Road to Uhajeong in Search of Poet Seo Jeong-tae," which traced the footsteps of poet Seo Jeong-tae, Midang's younger brother and a man who established his own unique poetic world, offered readers a moment of profound reflection. This section highlighted the magazine's efforts to uncover the value of regional literature and connect it with the national literary community.
The following artistic performance brought the event to a climax. Poet Kim Yang-gyeong's lyrical recitation filled the hall with the fragrance of poetry, and the attendees were deeply immersed in each and every verse. The celebratory performances by guitarist Yani Kim Do-yeon and Yaeul and Yanong, featuring profound melodies like "Quelques Notes Pour Anna," completed a splendid collaboration of literature and music. The melody of the music combined with the rhythm of the poetry to deliver an unforgettable wave of emotion to the attendees.
The second part of the awards ceremony, featuring a performance by musician Kim Hyun-soo and a congratulatory poem recitation by poet Lee Sang-sook for her Spring Literary Contest, created a warm atmosphere. Since its founding in 1991 by poet Kim Jong-cheon, along with poets Kim Nam-jo, Yoo An-jin, Lee Geun-bae, and Kwon Il-song, Postmodern has continuously explored the possibilities of new thinking, blurring the lines between literature and art. This unique editorial approach, which respects classical values while also embracing modern experimentation, has transformed the magazine beyond mere media into a vast literary platform and community.
Editor-in-Chief Kim Deul-pul stated, "The winning entries this time were impressive for their unique style, which explores the inherent values of humanity even amidst the rapidly changing times." He emphasized, "In this era of AI-powered writing and the proliferation of digital technology, Postmodern will continue to lead the way in expressing the raw, paradoxically most human emotions through literary expression." This declaration signifies a commitment to preserving the essential values of literature, even amidst technological advancements.
After all the official events concluded, attendees continued their literary exchanges with commemorative photos and a tea party. The awards ceremony marked the glorious debut of new writers, while established writers reaffirmed their creative aspirations and passion.
