【브레이크뉴스 경북】이성현 기자=경북교육청은 21일 본청 웅비관에서 2026년 경북미래교육지구로 새롭게 지정된 고령군과 성주군과 함께 업무협약을 체결하고, 지역과 학교, 마을이 함께 성장하는 경북형 미래교육 생태계 구축에 본격적으로 나섰다고 밝혔다.

경북미래교육지구는 학교와 지역사회의 긴밀한 소통과 협력을 바탕으로 지역교육공동체를 조성하고, 아이 키우기 좋은 교육 환경을 마련하기 위해 경북교육청과 기초지방자치단체가 협약을 통해 지정·운영하는 지역이다.
이 사업은 2020년 의성·상주·예천·안동·경주 등 5개 지역에서 시작해 꾸준히 확대돼 왔으며, 2025년에는 12개 지구로 늘어나 안정적인 운영 단계에 접어들었다. 현재는 경북 도내 다수의 기초지자체가 참여하는 대표적인 지역 연계 교육 사업으로 자리 잡았다.
특히 교육을 통해 지역공동체 회복과 교육격차 해소 가능성을 입증한 성공 사례로 평가받고 있으며, 학령인구 감소와 지방 소멸 위기에 대응하는 지역 기반 미래교육 모델로도 주목받고 있다.
이번 고령군과 성주군의 추가 지정으로 2026년부터 경북미래교육지구는 총 14개 지구로 확대 운영된다. 이를 통해 경북 전반의 교육 균형 발전이 한층 가속화되고, 지역 특성을 반영한 교육 및 돌봄 체계 구축에도 탄력이 붙을 전망이다.
경북미래교육지구에서는 지역사회와 연계한 마을교육과정 운영을 비롯해 마을교과서와 지역화 교재 제작, 지역 특색을 반영한 특화 프로그램 운영, 방과후 돌봄 및 아이돌봄 지원 등 다양한 사업이 추진되고 있다. 이를 통해 지역 간 교육 환경 격차를 완화하고 학부모의 돌봄 부담을 경감하는 데 중점을 두고 있다.
이 같은 정책은 지역 주민이 체감하는 교육·돌봄 문제 해결로 이어져 지역에 대한 신뢰와 자긍심을 높이고, 인구 유출 완화 등 지속 가능한 지역사회 조성에도 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
임종식 경북교육감은 “지역과 함께 아이들의 성장과 배움을 책임지는 것이 미래 교육의 핵심”이라며 “고령과 성주가 지닌 역사·문화·농촌 자원 등 지역의 특성을 교육과정에 적극 반영해 아이들이 지역 속에서 배우고 성장할 수 있는 미래교육지구를 만들어 가겠다”고 말했다.

These policies are expected to address the educational and care needs of local residents, boosting trust and pride in the region, and contributing to the creation of sustainable communities by mitigating population outflow.
Gyeongbuk Superintendent of Education Lim Jong-sik said, “Taking responsibility for children’s growth and learning together with the region is the core of future education,” and added, “We will actively reflect the regional characteristics of Goryeong and Seongju, such as their history, culture, and rural resources, in the curriculum to create a future education district where children can learn and grow within the region.”
