스마트공장 보급·확산사업은 제품 설계와 생산 공정 개선을 위해 스마트공장 솔루션과 연동되는 자동화 장비, 제어기, 센서 등의 구축을 지원하는 사업이다. 포항TP는 지금까지 100여 개 중소·중견 제조기업을 대상으로 스마트공장 구축을 지원해 왔으며, 단계별 고도화 전략을 통해 현장 맞춤형 스마트공장 도입을 이끌며 기업의 제조혁신 경쟁력을 강화하고 있다.
이 사업을 통해 참여 기업들은 생산성과 품질 향상은 물론, 반복 업무 감소로 현장 근로자와 경영진 모두의 업무 효율과 만족도가 크게 개선된 것으로 나타났다. 이에 따라 기초 단계 구축 이후 고도화 단계로 연계되는 사례도 꾸준히 늘어나고 있다.
대표적인 사례로 콘크리트 제품 생산용 스틸보드를 제조해 2019년 동탑산업훈장을 수상한 ㈜삼정산업은 2024년 스마트공장 구축 지원을 통해 생산관리시스템(MES)을 도입하고 스틸보드 평탄 교정 공정을 개선했다. 이어 2025년에는 ‘제조 AI 특화 스마트공장 구축 지원사업’에 선정돼 차량 휠 디스크 품질 검사 공정에 AI 기술을 적용하며 제조 혁신을 가속화하고 있다.
또 다른 사례인 그래핀스퀘어㈜는 ‘꿈의 신소재’로 불리는 그래핀의 국내 첫 양산을 추진하는 기업으로, 2024년 정부 일반형 스마트공장 구축 지원사업을 통해 통합관리시스템을 도입했다. 이를 통해 생산·영업·물류 전반을 아우르는 관리 체계를 구축하고, 실시간 공정 데이터 수집과 모니터링이 가능한 생산관리 기능을 구현했다. 특히 AI 알고리즘 기반 그래핀 품질 분석과 디지털 트윈 환경을 적용해 품질 경쟁력을 한층 강화했다.
포항TP는 중소벤처기업부, 경상북도, 포항시와의 협력을 바탕으로 제조 현장에 AI 기술을 확산시키고, 스마트제조 혁신의 현장 적용을 더욱 확대할 계획이다.
배영호 포항TP 원장은 “지역 기업들이 AI 도입의 필요성은 공감하지만 실제 현장 적용에는 여전히 어려움이 많다”며 “디지털 전환을 넘어 AI 전환으로 도약할 수 있도록 실질적인 스마트제조 지원과 AI 기반 제조혁신을 지속적으로 추진하겠다”고 말했다.

Furthermore, in 2025, it was selected for the "Manufacturing AI-Specialized Smart Factory Construction Support Project," accelerating manufacturing innovation by applying AI technology to the quality inspection process for vehicle wheel discs.
Another example is Graphene Square Co., Ltd., a company pursuing Korea's first mass production of graphene, often referred to as the "dream new material," introduced an integrated management system in 2024 through the government's General Smart Factory Construction Support Project. This system enabled the company to establish a comprehensive management system encompassing production, sales, and logistics, and implemented production management capabilities capable of collecting and monitoring real-time process data. Notably, the company further enhanced its quality competitiveness by applying AI algorithm-based graphene quality analysis and a digital twin environment.
