【브레이크뉴스 경주】이성현 기자=경상북도문화관광공사(사장 김남일)는 10일 사단법인 한국ESG학회가 주관한 ‘제3회 한국ESG대상’에서 공공기관 사회(S) 부문 대상을 수상했다고 밝혔다. 동시에 김남일 사장은 개인 ESG 부문 대상을 받아 공사와 기관장이 함께 수상의 영예를 안았다.

‘한국ESG대상’은 입법·행정·사법부를 비롯해 전국 지자체, 공공기관, 민간기업 등을 대상으로 ESG 통합·환경(E)·사회(S)·거버넌스(G) 4개 분야의 우수사례를 발굴·확산하기 위해 마련된 상이다.
공사는 지역소멸 위기 극복과 상생을 목표로 ‘관광 기반 지역 공동체 자생력 강화’와 ‘지역경제 활성화’를 견인한 성과를 인정받았다. 특히 2025 APEC 정상회의 유치 과정에서 경북도·경주시·입주업체 간 의견을 조율하고 협력 거버넌스를 구축해 기초지자체 최초 APEC 유치에 기여했다는 평가를 받았다.
이어 APEC 준비를 위해 APEC지원총괄단TF, APEC사업TF를 신설하고 약 310억 원 규모의 13개 사업을 추진해 보문관광단지 인프라 개선과 지역 관광환경을 고도화했다. 또한 경상북도, 경북도의회, 경주시, 포항시와 공동 협력해 2026 아시아태평양관광협회(PATA) 연차총회를 경주·포항에 유치하며 국제회의도시로서의 위상을 강화했다.
아울러 공사는 2019년부터 6년간 533개 지역 관광업체에 204억 원 규모의 관광진흥기금을 지원하고, 3,179개 음식·숙박업체의 시설환경 개선을 위해 총 420억 원을 투입하는 등 지역 관광산업의 지속성을 확보해왔다. 이를 통해 약 21만 명의 생활인구 창출 효과도 거둔 것으로 나타났다. 더불어 울릉군 나리마을이 경북 최초로 UN Tourism 한국 대표마을로 선정되도록 지원하는 등 지역 문화관광 컨트롤타워 역할을 수행했다.
한편, 개인 ESG 부문 대상을 수상한 김남일 사장은 생태환경(E), 해녀·지역공동체 상생(S), 관광 ESG 거버넌스(G) 분야에서 공로를 인정받았다. 김 사장은 동해안 해양보호구역(MPA) 확대와 연계한 유네스코 생물권보전지역 지정 추진, 국가해양생태공원 지정 기여, 환동해 블루카본센터 조성 등 블루카본 연구·정책 기반 확충에 주력해 왔다. 또한 『미역 인문학』 저술 등을 통해 해조류 산업과 블루카본의 가치를 알리는 데 큰 역할을 했다.
사회 부문에서는 경북 동해안 해녀 실태 조사와 해녀 발굴·등록, 해녀 의료·복지 지원, ‘구룡포리 해녀길’ 조성 등 해녀 공동체 보호와 지역 경제 활성화에 기여했다. 더불어 청년 정책과 마을 프로젝트를 통해 지역 공동체 회복에도 앞장섰다.
관광 거버넌스 측면에서는 보문관광단지의 브랜드 재정립과 ‘대한민국 관광 반세기 프로젝트’를 추진하고, ‘POST-APEC 보문 2030 민간투자’를 통해 총 6,000억 원 규모의 민간투자 약속을 이끌어내는 등 지속가능한 관광 생태계 구축에 기여했다.
김남일 사장은 “이번 수상은 여러 현장에서 함께해온 지역사회, 관광업계, 해녀·청년·주민 여러분 덕분”이라며 “공사는 앞으로도 ESG 전 분야에서 책임 있는 공공기관의 역할을 확대하며 지속 가능한 지역관광 모델을 실현해 나가겠다”고 말했다.
