(무안·고흥=브레이크뉴스) 이학수 기자=전라남도가 국내 친환경 항공산업의 핵심 거점으로 도약하기 위한 첫발을 내디뎠다.
전남도는 3일 고흥 국가종합비행성능시험장에서 '친환경 항공기용 전기추진시스템 평가센터' 착공식(사진)을 개최하고, 국내 최초의 통합 인증시설 구축을 본격화했다.
이날 착공식에는 양국진 고흥부군수, 정태준 한국건설생활환경시험연구원 부원장, 김덕관 국가종합비행성능시험센터장, 강지훈 전남대학교 기획연구본부장 등 주요 인사 100여 명이 참석해 센터 구축에 대한 기대감을 높였다.
전 세계적으로 유럽연합이 2035년부터 무공해 항공기만 운항을 허용하는 등 항공업계가 탄소중립 대전환기를 맞았으나, 국내에는 항공기 핵심부품의 검증 및 인증 인프라가 전무한 실정이었다.
이번에 착공된 평가센터는 이러한 인프라 공백을 메우고, 대한민국을 친환경 항공 강국으로 이끌 전략적 거점이 될 전망이다.
센터는 2028년까지 총 196억 원을 투입하여 1천650㎡ 규모로 조성되며, 이차전지·전기동력계·비행모사·다축추력·아이언버드 등 5종의 핵심 장비가 구축된다. 이를 통해 항공기 핵심부품의 개발부터 시험평가, 인증, 표준화까지 원스톱 서비스를 지원하게 된다.
평가센터 구축은 단순한 시설 건립을 넘어, 국내 항공산업의 기술 경쟁력을 끌어올릴 협력 체계를 갖추는 데 중점을 두고 있다.
한국건설생활환경시험연구원은 국가공인 인증과 국제 표준화를 주도하며, 항공우주연구원과 전남대는 서울대, KAIST 등 국내 유수 대학 및 해외 전문기관과의 연구 네트워크를 통해 수요기업들에게 실질적인 기술 지도, 시험평가, 인증 및 시제품 제작을 지원할 계획이다.
이번 사업을 통해 고흥은 기존의 우주발사체와 드론 산업에 이어 친환경 항공산업까지 아우르는 ‘트리플 거점지’로 영역을 확장하며 명실상부한 미래 첨단산업의 중심지로 자리매김할 것으로 기대된다.
김병성 전남도 우주신산업과장은 "평가센터는 전기추진시스템의 성능 평가 및 인증체계를 구축하는 통합플랫폼 역할을 하게 될 것"이라며, "국내 기업들이 표준화와 우수한 품질을 통해 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖추도록 적극 지원하겠다"고 밝혔다.
