12.3 비상계엄 이후 1년의 세월이 흘렀다. 우리 국민은 계엄과 내란으로 '겨울 공화국'을 획책하던 윤석열 전 대통령과 그 추종세력에 맞서 민주주의를 지켜냈다. 4.19 혁명과 5.18 민주화운동, 6.10 민주항쟁으로 이어지는 대한민국 민주주의의 위대한 역사는 반민주 세력의 참담한 반동적 도발을 기어코 막아냈다.

12.3 계엄과 내란은 한국 국민은 물론 세계에 큰 충격을 주었다. '한강의 기적'으로 일컬어질 만큼 경제 성장과 민주주의의 모범국가로 세계인의 존경을 받던 한국은 망상에 사로잡힌 돈키호테형 독재자 윤석열 전 대통령에 의해 유린되었다.
그러나 윤석열 전 대통령의 망상은 시민의 힘에 의해 제압되었다. 지난해 12월 3일 윤석열의 계엄 발표 직후 시민들은 즉각 민주주의 수호를 위한 행동에 나섰다. 시민들은 국회로 몰려가 무장 군인들에게 맨손으로 맞섰고 장갑차를 막아섰다. 대한민국을 엄혹한 독재시절로 되돌리려던 윤석열의 망상은 그야말로 '하룻밤의 꿈'으로 끝났다. 세계의 민주시민들은 한국 시민들의 영웅적 행동에 찬사를 보냈다. 절망적인 순간에 한국의 민주주의는 극적으로 되살아났다.
이후 시민들은 민주주의 수호와 내란 세력 심판을 외치며 6개월간의 거리투쟁을 벌였다. 그리고 마침내 헌정 질서의 절차 속에서 이재명 민주정부를 탄생시켰다. 거리에서 유튜브에서 민주주의 수호와 내란 심판을 외친 시민들이 민주주의를 지킨 영웅들이었다. 이재명 정부는 위대한 시민들의 뜻을 받드는 소임을 다짐했다. 이재명 대통령은 2일 "군사 쿠데타를 나치 전범 처리하듯 처벌해야 한다"고 밝혔다. 민주 회복을 위한 투쟁의 과정을 지켜본 민주주의 선진국들도 K-민주주의의 강한 회복력에 놀랍다며 찬사를 보냈다.
그러나 우리는 아직 진정한 민주주의의 시대를 만들어내지 못했다. 윤석열과 그 추종세력들은 반성과 사죄 대신 내란의 정당성을 주장하고 있다. 국민의힘도 내란 세력과 결별하지 못한 채 정략적인 행보를 이어가고 있다. 오로지 내년 지방선거에서 승리하고 정권을 되찾겠다는 욕심으로 정치를 하고 있다. 국민과 역사는 안중에도 없는 정치 패악질이라고 할 수 밖에 없다. 오죽하면 대표적인 보수 논객인 조갑제 조갑제닷컴 대표가 "한국의 극우는 어둡고 더러운 곳에서만 살 수 있는 역사의 바퀴벌레”라고 질타했겠는가?
내란은 아직 극복되지 못했다. 윤석열 전 대통령은 감옥을 진지로 삼아 내란의 정당성을 주장하고 극우세력을 선동하고 있다. 무속에 심취해 대선 토론에서 손바닥에 '왕(王)'자를 쓰고 나온 사람이 느닷없이 '전한길은 하나님의 선물' 운운하는 망언을 했다. 해괴함을 넘어 기괴한 정신세계가 아닐 수 없다. 국민의힘에 영향력을 행사하고 보수 기독교 세력을 선동하려는 얄팍한 생각이다. 그는 아직도 '감옥 대통령'이라는 망상의 세계에 살고 있는 듯하다. 내란의 강도 망상의 강도 건너지 못하는 안타까운 모습이다. 자신이 왜 최악의 대통령으로 평가받는지에 대한 최소한의 성찰 조차 보이지 않는다.

사법부의 내란 재판 지연과 윤석열 전 대통령 석방, 내란 관련자 구속영장 줄기각 등도 내란세력을 방조하는 행태라는 비판이다. 검찰 내 윤석열 전 대통령 사단과 수구 언론 등도 내란 극복의 걸림돌이 되고 있다.
그래도 우리는 보았다. 행동하는 시민, 불의에 항거하는 청년들이 만들어가는 K-민주주의의 대장정이 세상을 바꾸고 있음을 벅찬 가슴으로 보고 있다. 그래서 민주주의의 승리를 믿는다. 바퀴벌레는 결코 밝은 곳으로 나오지 못할 것이다. K-민주주의는 뚜벅뚜벅 승리의 길을 가고 있다.
