올해도 변함없이 서울아트쇼(총감독=김종근, 부감독=석유진, 큐레이터=베카라)가 코엑스에서 2024. 12. 24(화) ~ 12. 28(토) 5일간 개최된다. 13회째 열리는 <서울아트쇼>는 이제 한국의 많은 사람들과 컬렉터들에게 나눠주는 최고의 크리스마스 선물로 소문과 정평이 나 있다.
이것은 결국 미술품은 특별한 사람들의 전유물처럼 평가되었으나, 이제는 예술이 우리 모두를 위한 ”널 위한 예술”로 평가되고 있다는 뜻이다.
올해도 서울 아트쇼는 여러분들의 기대에 맞추어 몇 가지 특별전을 기획했다. 오랫동안 시리즈로 추진해 왔던 전시인 <한국미술의 오리지널리티 특별전>에서는 한국미술에서 단색화로 크게 평가 받고 있는 박서보 작가, 세계적인 점의 화가 이우환 그리고 물방울의 작가 김창렬, 하종현 작가의 귀하고 주옥같은 작품들이 선보인다. 또한, 특별하게도 조각과 회화의 세계를 아우르며 주목을 받아온 심문섭 작가의 특별전도 컬렉터들의 눈길을 멈추게 할 것이다.
13회를 이끌어 오면서 그동안 <서울아트쇼>는 다른 아트페어와 차별화를 위해 한국미술의 오리지널리티를 위하여 65세 이상의 다양한 경향의 작가들을 초대 기획하여 보다 폭넓은 작가를 관람객과 공유하고자 해왔다. 그 결과 6만명 이상의 관람객 방문으로 매년 크리스마스 최고의 미술 축제로 자리매김하게 되었다. 이번에 해외작가로는 참신한 작품으로 주목을 받는 엔리코 엠브롤리, 그레고리 데 라하바,마르크 레이너의 작품들이 선보인다. 이외에도 늘 조각가들을 위한 정원인 스컵쳐 가든에서는 국경오 작가를 비롯하여 대중들에게 인기가 많은 김경민 작가. 박민정, 박찬걸, 이상길, 이용철, 장성민 등이 입체작품을 소개하여 정원에 놓였을 시각적 즐거움을 줄 것이다.
이번에는 예술의 전당에서 전시 중인 <빈센트 반 고흐>가 국경오 작가 초대로 서울아트 쇼에 끝날 때까지 함께 자리할 것이다. 또한, 참신한 신인 작가들의 개인 부스가 관람객 여러분을 즐겁게 해줄 것이며, 150여개의 부스에서 회화, 조각, 영상, 설치, 판화, 사진 등 다양한 미술 장르 작품들이 볼거리를 제공할 것이다.
앞으로도 <서울아트쇼>는 더욱 참신하고 과감하게, 기획과 운영으로 한국 미술시장의 확대와 발전에 이바지하는 예술 보금자리로 성장해 갈 것이다.

지금은 어렵지만 어려운 경제 속에서도 지난 11월 뉴욕 경매에서 르네 마그리트의 ‘빛의 제국’(1954)이 1억 2100만 달러(1698억 원)에, 클로드 모네의 ‘수련’(1914~1917)이 6500만 달러(약 912억 원)에 낙찰되는 것으로 보아 해외시장과 발맞추어 한국 미술시장도 조금씩 회복세를 보일 것으로 전망된다.
예술 애호가들과 일반 관람객 모두에게 다채롭고 풍성한 예술적 경험을 선사할 '2024 서울 아트쇼가 될 것이다.
한국 작가들의 외국 진출과 베니스 비엔날레 등 주요 전시에 프로젝트 참여는 물론 한국의 근현대 미술운동을 재조명하는 기획전이 구겐하임 등 미국 주요 미술관에서 개최되는 것은 결코 일시적인 현상만은 아니다.
이것이 K 컬쳐와 아트의 힘이다. 앞으로도 한국의 중견 및 신진 작가들도 외국 주요 미술관과 중요 메이저 갤러리에서 개인전이 진행되고 있다.
