서울 예술의 전당에서 ‘빛의 거장 카라바조와 바로크의 얼굴들’ 주제의 전시가 있다.

어둠이 짙어질수록 빛에 대한 갈구는 더욱 커지게 된다. 결국 인간의 본성을 추구하는 마음이다. 도리를 알고 지키며 품위를 잃지 않는 고고한 정신은 정말 사라져 버린 것일까?

예전에 대통령과 장관들은 존경과 존중의 대상이었다. 국회의원들은 국가는 물론 지역의 이끌어 주는 올바른 어른이었다. 타협 없이 대쪽 같았던 사법부는 숭고하기까지 하였다. 사정기관의 청렴은 국민들을 안심시켜 주었고, 열정과 성실로 꿈과 목표를 이루어가는 체육인과 연예인은 돈이 없어도 기꺼이 밑거름이 되어준 어른들의 희생이 있어 순수하고 겸손함 속에 꿈을 키웠다.
주는 것 중 가장 소중한 것은 알아주는 것이라고 한다. 무릇 리더라고 한다면 시대의 흐름을 파악하고 국민들의 마음을 헤아리고 알아주는 것이 진정으로 국가를 위하는 일이고 국민들에게 올바르게 봉사하는 것 일이다. 한 예로 한 어린 소녀의 용기 있는 한마디로 살짝 벗겨져 드러난 스포츠계의 어두운 면을 비통한 마음으로 지켜 보았기에 대중에게 밝은 빛을 이끌어낼 새로운 리더십이 절실히 요구되는 것이다.

‘이 뽑는 사람’을 보면서 국민들이 가진 것을 뽑아 가지려는 탐욕으로 가득 찬 이 시대의 권력을 가진 자들의 모습을 연상되기도 한다. 또 한편으로는 비리와 권력의 남용, 무능이 러났으면서도 그 권력을 절대 놓지 않으려는 집착을 보이는 정치와 체육계의 일부 인사들의 권력욕을 제거하고 싶은 국민의 마음을 대변하듯 카타르시스가 느껴지기도 한다.
